The fire test methods used are:
Non-Combustibility: Building materials are classified as either non-combustible or combustible according to their behavior when tested to BS 476-Part – 4:1970. This test provides a measure of the propensity of materials to generate heat and flames under standardized heat exposure conditions. It represents the highest and most stringent standard for the fire performance of materials. Metroc Calcium Silicate Board has gone through this test and has been rated as Non-Combustible.
Surface Spread Of Flame: This test, as specified in BS-476-Part-7: 1971, is used to determine the tendency of materials to support the spread of flame across their surfaces. Materials are classified Class-1 to Class-4, in descending order of performance. These classifications are applied mainly to wall and ceilings. In this test too, Metroc Calcium Silicate Board passed with the highest rating of Class-1.
Fire Propagation: This test as per BS-476-Part-6: 1968 provides a means of measuring the rate of heat evolution of materials exposed to flames and radiant heat. Metroc Calcium Silicate Board passed this test with Fire Propagation Index (I) = 4.
Surface Spread of Flame: Metroc Calcium Silicate boards have Class-1 Surface Spretweight materials have low conductivity and act as effective thermal insulates. The lower the (K) value of a material, the better is its insulating efficiency.ad of Flame with ignitability as “P”, NOT EASILY IGNITABLE, and hence they can provide good fire resistance in the range of 30 minutes to 240 minutes, depending on the construction design. Fire resistance is determined by tests to BS-476- Part -20 & 22-1987, “Fire test on Building Materials and structures” in which a specimen is subjected to heating conditions based on a standard temperature/ time curve. Due to this superior thermal insulation characteristic, room comfort is maintained at all times, greatly saving in cooling and heating expenses. Owing to low heat conductivity, the product has good performances on keeping warm and heat insulation.
Thermal Conductivity is the measure of a material’s ability to transmit heat. It is expressed as heat flow in watts per square meter of surface area for a temperature gradient of one Kelvin(K) per meter thickness and is expressed as W/mK. Dense materials have a high thermal conductivity and are inefficient thermal insulates whereas lightweight materials have low conductivity and act as effective thermal insulates. The lower the (K) value of a material, the better is its insulating efficiency.
Thermal resistance is the measure of the resistance to the passage of heat offered by the thickness of a material and is expressed as m² K/W. The thermal resistance of material is obtained by dividing the thickness of material in meter by its thermal conductivity ( K) value. (R=Thickness in meters / K value) Metroc Calcium Silicate boards have “K” value of 0.15 W/mK, hence can contribute to energy savings and can provide comfort to the occupants of the buildings in which they are used. Thermal Transmittance (U) : Thermal transmittance of a building element is a property of its whole construction including air spaces and is the measure of its ability to transmit heat under steady state condition. It is calculated by taking reciprocal of the sum of all the individual thermal resistances. It is expressed as W/m2K . The lower the (U) value of the element, the better is its thermal insulation. As mentioned earlier, the thermal insulation of Metroc Calcium Silicate boards is very good as it has good thermal resistance and also as a very low thermal transmittance, hence it retains the heat within the building.
When different sounds come together in harmony, it is soothing to our ears but when jarring sounds irritate us, it is called noise. In order to minimize this unwanted sound, our buildings must be acoustically treated. Metroc Calcium Silicate boards possess excellent acoustical properties, which reduces the sound that passes between two spaces separated by a dividing element. The sound energy, during transmission, passes through the dividing element through direct transmission or through the surroundings like walls, floors, ceilings, ducts, windows and door openings through indirect transmission. Therefore both the methods should be taken into consideration, while designing. Metroc Calcium Silicate boards provide optimum sound insulation by allowing the least amount of transfer of sound energy and reducing the amount of leakage through doors, windows, air conditioners, continuous run of ducts, cracks, holes and gapes, electrical outlets, service pipes, suspended ceiling or partitions, common ventilation systems, etc. When traditional or remedial methods do not satisfactorily work, the sound insulation of existing walls and partitions can be further improved by providing a layer or lining with Metroc Calcium Silicate boards. The linings not only provide sound insulation but also provide good thermal insulation.

Sound absorption is the loss of sound energy on reflection on a surface. Sound absorbent surfaces are used to provide a correct acoustic climate in a room. Metroc Calcium Silicate Board have superior sound absorption qualities which enhances the acoustical properties of a room.
Metroc Calcium Silicate Board have 100% RH resistance and are not affected by moisture, water and extreme of temperatures. The product is allowed to long-term exposure to moist environment but still very stable. The board still keeps intact after being soaked in water for one month, the phenomenon of swelling and out of shape will not happen. It has good adjusting mechanics like woods. Even it is used on wash house.
The construction process does not require complicated tools but just the ones used in regular wood construction. Metroc Calcium Silicate Board can be fixed on light steel frame with self-attachable screws or a glue gun to nail the bolts into the wooden frame.
